It was the very first day i focused on my emotions when experiencing an intense wave of negative feelings. I didn’t try to fix nor solve, I simply acknowledged. As I sit with this feeling and learn healthier ways to approach it, I notice a sense of validation, self validation. Even though I’m present with these feelings, I don’t feel as intensely misunderstood, or invalidated as I have felt previous times at the face of this kind of pain I am currently experiencing. I was so used to being conceptualized by the outside world to the point I didn’t know who the person that looked back at me in the mirror was—I’m still trying to figure that out. As I learn to reframe the way I whether intense feelings, I’m learning that I was the one making myself feel invalidated, invisible. The loneliness I felt wasn’t because I couldn’t find someone that understood me, it was because I was so caught up trying to find someone that understood me—I forgot I can also have the ability to understand myself, and I was unaware of the power behind that. I have bullied myself, I have dismissed myself, I have abused myself, and most tragically—I have blamed others for the feelings that followed these actions that I made. The twist is that just because I’m aware, it doesn’t magically brake down this mental construct I already have. In reality, what comes next is the “work” part of my healing journey. This is where I struggle the most, effort towards myself. I think that the cherry on top is the fact that you can have all this awareness and feel ahead but if your actions aren’t aligned with your thought process regarding healing, things can feel like they’re rapidly crumbling. In my experience, it can feel very crippling to know what you have to do or what the process would be, but contradicting yourself with your actions.
