@brynn_ann: What’s The Best Way to Store Your Sourdough Starter? Your sourdough starter is a live, active culture made of wild yeast and lactic acid bacteria. How you store and maintain it can impact its strength and performance. 🌡️ COUNTER STORAGE: Warmer temps keep your starter’s microorganisms more active. With daily feedings, you’re replenishing nutrients and maintaining a predictable starter. ❄️ FRIDGE STORAGE: Cold temps slow down activity and fermentation. That means your starter needs to be fed less often. But the fridge can also reduce yeast activity which makes your starter weaker (and harder for you to get it to bounce back). ✨ You can store your starter in the fridge and keep it strong and healthy….as long as you take care of it. If your starter does get weak, you can usually strengthen and rebalance it. Personally, I keep mine on the counter because I bake A LOT. #sourdough #sourdoughstarter #sourdoughbread #sourdoughbaking #sourdoughtips
I can’t seem to get my starter on track. I’m getting so bummed.

I leave discard in the fridge that I don’t touch unless I’m baking with it :) but I also keep one fed on the counter :)

I don't think anyone would dispute that the best practice FOR THE STARTER is to store it on the counter. But given the reality that many cannot maintain a counter starter bc of time contraints- the frig is second best.

Can you feed for multiple days, without baking? Say- I left my starter on the counter and fed it daily, but only wanted to bake once a week.

Can’t you use discard as a back up? And stupid question when your dehydrated your starter you just let it air dry right? Sorry I’m new to this community.
