Public banking cuts out the middleman, giving local governments ownership over the investments made on our local taxes. This means more money circulating back into loans for our communities — because private bankers would otherwise take a cut, and because they are less inclined to invest in low-profit projects (read: social goods, like parks!). Our Divest From Apartheid campaign makes it a point to call out investments that have been leading to a bleak future for us and our planet — as we see in the genocide of the Palestinian people — shored up by Israel’s apartheid system with the support of the companies on the BDS list.
