@michaeltothemax: How Could You Have Been So Wrong About Someone You Loved? You know what really messes with your head after a breakup? Realizing that you may not have known someone as well as you thought you did. You trusted them. You believed what they told you. You made plans together. Maybe you spent years building a life with this person. And then one day, they tell you they don't want to be with you anymore. Now you're sitting there asking yourself, "How in the world did I get this so wrong?" There's a psychological concept called Assumptive World Theory, associated with psychologist Ronnie Janoff-Bulman. The basic idea is that we all carry certain beliefs about how life works, how people behave, and what we can expect from those we trust. When something seriously contradicts those beliefs, it can shake our sense of security. Think about your relationship. You believed that if you were faithful, loving, and committed, your partner would stay. You believed their promises. You believed the future you were planning together was something you could count on. And then they left. Suddenly, you're questioning everything. Were they pretending? Did you miss the warning signs? Was any of it real? And perhaps the most painful question of all: "What does this say about me?" Be careful with that last question. Research published in Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin found that romantic breakups can disrupt people's sense of who they are, and that reduced clarity about themselves is associated with greater emotional distress. But somebody leaving doesn't automatically mean you weren't good enough. It doesn't mean every good memory was a lie. And it certainly doesn't mean you're incapable of making good decisions. Maybe you overlooked some things. Maybe you trusted promises that weren't supported by actions. Those are things worth examining. But here's something I want you to understand: Being a good partner does not guarantee that somebody will stay. You can love someone deeply, treat them well, and do everything within your power to make the relationship work. But you cannot make another person choose you. So perhaps part of what you're grieving isn't just the person who left. It's the future you believed you had with them. And rebuilding your life means learning from what happened without allowing it to destroy your confidence in yourself. You may have been wrong about the relationship. That doesn't mean you're wrong about your own worth. Remember, the higher you climb, the better the view. #BreakupRecovery #HealingAfterBreakup #BreakupRecovery #healing #ClimbHigher
