Unlikeable is literally the ONLY thing on your extremely accurate list, that in guilty of. They had to antagonize that out of me after years of these court dates.

I work as an advocate in a DV/SA/HT agency. I honestly feel the hardest part of our work is dealing with the disillusionment and frustration of systems and society. We can support and help navigate those systems, but it’s relentless. Advocates don’t burn out through vicarious trauma, we burn out because we are reminded daily our clients aren’t protected and neither will we be.

My ex changed his address to mine without me knowing because he would stalk my mailbox so zi never got the address change notification.
When he started threatening my life I called the cops and they said they couldn't do anything because he hadn't done anything and "he lived there"
When he tried to kill me in the middle of the street 2 weeks later my 2 female neighbors rescued me.
The same man cop asked me, "If you were so scared why didn't you do something?"
"Sir, 2 weeks ago you told me you wouldn't help me."
After all that though I will say the state of California has an amazing victim advocacy program and I can't remember her name but the woman who started it was a DA in Nor Cal whose sister went missing as a teenager. 🥰 I was able to hide my voting record, my address etc.

One of the last realizations I've had as an adult is how completely corrupt our judicial system is. It's always been known. But to understand more completly what that actually means by watching it in practice is disheartening and adds the punctuation to the sentence describing the utter disappointment I feel in regards to my country and fellow countrymen.

When my sister and I tried to report our abuse and severe fear of my mother and step father, we were too young to know not to trust the PD. That because my mom worked for the PD, they would harm us. We were separated and I was put into a freezing room in a metal chair and after 2 hours an officer came in and literally threatened me with Judie, separation from my sister, and then shook me in the chair until I recanted. Even if you are white, feminine and cis… the system is stacked against survivors. As someone who is femme presenting, people are often surprised if I mention I don’t trust the PD. Any of them. I feel like not trusting them from an early age has been extremely helpful, though.

I was 9 when I told on my abuser. My teachers showed more respect than anyone in my family. And he stayed under the same roof until I left at 18!!!

So true. In a similar vein one of the true crime accounts i follow recently posted about how the media description/labeling of a victim can affect public perception, specifically calling a murder victim a drug addict, sex worker, etc. immediately causes a lot of people to see the crime differently.

perfect emotional volume is an illusion in general, and specifically different individuals consider perfect to be something between volume 2 and 3 or between 6 and 7 or over 10. Do not get confused about what is appropriate for the specific individual in the audience.
