In September 2025, 43-year-old farmer Randy Fyllesvold was tragically killed in a car crash near Maxbass, North Dakota. He left behind his wife, Kharra, their two sons, and nearly 1,400 acres of corn, soybeans, and canola that still needed to be harvested. As the family struggled with the heartbreaking loss, Randy’s friends quickly stepped in to help. Wyatt Thompson and Andy Gates began organizing support from nearby farming communities. Gates made Randy’s father-in-law, Larry, a promise that brought hope during an incredibly difficult time. He told him, “Don’t worry about the corn, we’ll just get it off.” When November arrived, that promise became reality. Around 75 volunteers from more than 10 surrounding communities came together to harvest Randy’s crops. They arrived with 12 combines and worked across the large fields, dividing the work and trucks into groups. Gates described their approach as a “divide and conquer” operation. Local grain elevators also helped by working with the volunteers to handle the large amount of grain being delivered. Everyone played a part in making sure Randy’s crops were harvested. The incredible turnout showed how many lives Randy had touched during his life. Speaking to KFYR-TV, Wyatt Thompson said, “To know Randy was to love Randy, and the reach that he had was kind of endless.” For Kharra and her two sons, seeing so many people come together in Randy’s honor was an unforgettable experience. She described the scene as “nothing short of breathtaking” and said she and her boys felt “blessed.” Later, Kharra shared her gratitude on Facebook, saying she would never forget the kindness shown to her family. She also remembered Randy as “the best person I have ever known.” During one of the hardest seasons of their lives, an entire community came together to finish Randy’s final harvest. Their kindness gave the family support and showed how people can come together when a neighbor needs them most. * #CommunityHarvest * #NeighborsHelpingNeighbors * #FarmersSupportingFarmers * #FarmLife * #InLovingMemory * *
