while some very small societies had *some* elements of female leadership, by-and-large no, almost all human societies tended to be hyper-patriarchal. Especially over a certain size. This is very reminiscent of the Fa'fafine fallacy, where Samoan culture is so homophobic that gay men are literally offered the choice of renouncing all rights to own property and other traditional male privileges, in return for being allowed to sleep with other Fa'fafine men.
