I became less of a chameleon and more like a bridge between generations, genders, and cultures. Filling the gap between where they are and where I am. I learned to bump up against the edge of being who I am authentically. I constrained myself in each relationship. I'm out of energy to hide myself. I talk A LOT and filtered so much for 49 years.

Yes! I always felt like I had to keep friends/family group separates. It was really because I had different masks around each of them. Well that was some of it, but there was also some other lore involved that made me keep them separate.

Thankfully, no I never played that game. We've been and are raising daughters to always be exactly who they are. It's been and is so hard to watch our youngest be bullied and be left out because she refuses to be play the game. She's 100% brutally honest and people hate that. She's alternative in just about every way, and she just doesn't fit in with most of the other kids. She's 17 and already an insanely talented musician and film editor. She's planning to go to college for film and music where I hope she finally finds her people.
