@samehere_global: Read RJ Mitte's words he shared just before his passing..then think about our mental healthcare system. In a recent interview, RJ, Walt Jr. from Breaking Bad, talked about people suffering from medication and from illnesses we have the ability to treat, but don't, because of financial gain. He was talking about healthcare in general - which encompasses all kinds of challenges - physical and mental. We run on quick fixes. A label, a prescription, a 15-minute follow-up. Next. Even for the people we know have the means for "top care." Get a sore throat as a young kid and what's the plan? Test (culture), label (strep), med (antibiotic), back to schools. It's the only system we know. Medication helps a lot of people. But, especially in MH, it was never meant to be the whole plan, and it's not a cure. It's a boost to help us do the real healing work: connection, time, and tools we use every day, not just when we're in crisis. I've been writing about this for almost a decade, here, and it's a big part of why I wrote DiagNOsis (which I'm not plugging off of a passing...that's gross... and I didn't put it in the slides - I'm plugging it here bc we NEED to talk about and approach this topic differently - the link is in my bio, out 11/10). RJ isn't the first public figure we've lost this year to mental health - not by a long shot. Until we stop putting square pegs in round holes thru this system, he won't be the last.
