I genuinely put off watching the legend of Korra for years because I heard such negativity, and I didn’t want to taint my perception of the Avatar universe. However, back in May, I decided to watch it—and I am so glad I did!!! Korra’s flawed but so was Aang. That’s the beauty to me of the Avatar is their humanity. Regardless of this great power they yield—they are put onto this pedestal. Korra is aggressive and brash but that’s fun to see after having Aang who is a pacifist. —but imo, people only hate that because she’s a woman and those attributes are more commonly associated with men. 🙄

Nobody hates Korra just because she is a girl. A lot people just don’t like her because of her personality and attitude. People who lack understanding and can only think on a surface level now so they conflate “don’t like” with “hate”. Now for the reasons, first one off the bat is her attitude. It took almost losing 3 times, almost dying 2 times, and 3 seasons before she humbled her ego. A lot of the times she was told “that’s not a good idea don’t do that.” but still did the thing anyway, caused bad things to happen and somehow STILL had an ego about it. The second one was people were just disappointed with her. Like that first scene where she was literally smoking her firebending master that was so dope. I was personally so ready for more of that. But she lost to all of her villians in 1v1s and had to be saved by Jinora 3 separate times. Like personal I don’t hate Korra. I do hate Korra glazers though for thinking they can compare a 12 year old kid, who was WAY more mature, to Korra at 17-21… I most blame the writing… they wrote her this way… these writers were terrible.

Yes of course I’m going to hold Korra who is a grown as adult, pampered, taught for YEARS training with the elements to a higher standard then a 12 years old avatar in his first year

Misogynistic & homophobic is a STRETCH. People love Aang mostly (imo) because he is the original. Hers being the 2nd series & the world being entirely different already put her at a disadvantage. People are probably harder on her & her mistakes because of that but to say misogynistic is ridicules, to say homophobic is ridicules. Ive never seen anyone say it was because she was a girl or because she was bi. Maybe I just dont see the same posts as you guys because I have no idea where this is coming from😭

Funny because no OG ATLA fans hate Katara, Toph, Azula, Mai, Ty-Lee, Jade, Kyoshi, Yang Chen or any other prominent female characters. It’s almost as if she’s disliked because she’s just…a bad character. And that’s fine you can enjoy watching the new show. We’ll enjoy not watching it.

In my opinion, Korra is better than Aang. She has better villains. I actually like how she loses so much only to show how resilient she is and get back up. She is strong-willed, stubborn, and persistent. Love her.

Y’all don’t ever talk about how Aang didn’t have the most palatable personality, too. 😭 Did he not take his anger out on his friends who didn’t deserve it? Was he not selfish at times? And when he grew up, he wasn’t even the best father, but y’all let that slide. He and Korra actually shared a lot of similar personality traits, but y’all only demonized the woman for it. THAT’S THE POINT.

I love the show. I think it was a great idea. They got the rarest bending to be normalized like lightning and metal bending I love how deep they was in the spirit world and they showed us the past avatars the first avatar and how it all happened but when people say she is better than aang that is simply not true he was a child who only knew Airbender. He did not know he was the avatar. He started out fresh, facing emperors, kings, and more. and it went with the storyline, Airbender or balance, water bender so chill earth benders are down to earth. Fire benders are hot headed. But when she came around, she was giving everything from a young age yeah, it was wrong that she did not have a outside life outside of being the avatar bite, she had teachers and everything to help her with being the avatar so nothing should’ve went wrong until you notice every single season the person she’s supposed to trust the most she stops, listening to the people she called her mentors, her family, her friends she just stopped listening to

People apparently hate or can’t figure complex character development. The show and characters are shown in a very realistic way. People can also still find a way to try and say the show is bad somehow 😭

a lot of my guy friends hate korra and it’s like stuff that wasn’t even really korras fault and when I explain to them how it’s not korras fault they just don’t wanna believe me or listen, been starting to think they misogynistic now…
