I went to ride Goliath a few years back and it wouldn’t click down all the way because I have big thighs. The worker was polite and told me to get off. I’m thankful for that.

My six flags has literal teenagers running these rides. It’s crazy to me

Think you’re right. The bar locked on his belly fat, and one of the hills he flew a bit up and now his fat was above the restraint and then each bunny hop made more of his body come out at that point until he flew out

the visuals you did really helped explain the physical set up of this. Thank you so much for that!

It’s the same concept as not putting toddlers in their car seats with winter coats on. The coats can compress and they can then be not safely restrained and be ejected from seat.

They need a secondary seat belt period as a fail safe.

As a bigger person, NITRO in NJ almost killed me. I had the mortifying experience with an employee jumping down on me to get the lap bar to click 3 notches. I couldn't even breathe or feel my legs it was so tight. after the climb when we hit the initial drop it was so steep it inverted, I literally came half way out of the seat and almost passed out from holding on with every bit of strength I had. I slammed back into the seat at the base of the free fall and held on the best I could for the rest of it. Everyone staff included thought it was hilarious and wouldn't listen to me how close that situation was. Let's just say that was the last time I ever attempted to ride a coaster. I know the fear I felt when I slipped up out of that seat, and I feel terrible knowing that person felt that all while knowing what was about to happen.

I've seen a lot of really mean discussion about his weight and as a bigger person, I just wanted to say thank you for speaking with respect about not just him, but about bigger riders as a whole. It really does make a difference 🫶🏻

I'm in NJ. Isn't Goliath the same type/seat design as Nitro?

My son and I went to 12 different six flags parks in July of this year. He is only 11 and I am 46 and not a small person. I saw people push their tummies out on some of the rides known for having a lot of airtime so their lap restraint would give them some space to experience those moments on the hills. I don’t know if this guy did that, but he might have and that would keep the bar locked too far away from his lap and possibly allow him to get “more airtime.” This is just my theory but even if the attendant checked his lap bar, if he was not set all the way back in his seat, they would not have been able to tell and the bar would have been locked with the sensors clearing the launch. It’s so sad what happened, but I don’t think the ride is at fault.

Seeing pictures of him.. he wasn’t an overly big guy at all. The picture of the restraint being that far out for sure wasn’t due to his size

You really opened my eyes to locked not necessarily secure. All my roller coaster life the click lock was what gave me a secure feeling. I’m way older now and haven’t been on a coaster in quite awhile, but thanks for sharing your experience and thoughts.

omg yea i remember back when I was in highschool my butt would always lift off the seats and especially with the over the shoulder ones all the way clicked down there was SO much room between me and those bars. terrifying

This was explained so well. I am teeny and when the coaster goes upside down, I go quite a bit before my shoulders hit the restraints- scary
