Having to prove you’re sick to the people who are supposed to LOVE YOU THE MOST! 😡💜 Imagine fighting a disease every damn day, pushing yourself to get out of the house, trying to LIVE a little, trying to enjoy life despite what your body puts you through, and then having somebody look you dead in your face and question whether you’re REALLY experiencing what you say you’re. THE FUCKING AUDACITY. Do you know how exhausting it is to live in a body that can turn on you at any given moment? To have good days and bad days? To push through pain because you refuse to let an illness steal every single moment of happiness you have left? And then, when your body finally says ENOUGH, you have to defend yourself like you’re on trial for being sick? I AM SO FUCKING TIRED OF THAT SHIT! And do you know what makes it hurt even MORE? When it comes from somebody you LOVE. Somebody you thought would be your safe place. Somebody you thought would understand that you’re already fighting hard enough without having to fight to be BELIEVED. I shouldn’t have to convince my loved ones that I’m hurting. I shouldn’t have to provide receipts for my pain. I shouldn’t have to look sick enough, suffer loudly enough, or damn near fall apart before somebody decides my experience is valid. WHO THE FUCK DO YOU THINK YOU ARE TO DECIDE WHAT MY BODY IS OR ISN’T EXPERIENCING? You don’t live in my body! You don’t feel what I feel! You don’t carry the fear, the exhaustion, the pain, or the consequences of pushing through when my body is begging me to stop. So how the hell do you get comfortable questioning something you will NEVER fully understand? And let me tell you something else: that look on your face when you question somebody’s illness can hurt just as much as the words coming out of your mouth. Because sometimes it isn’t just WHAT you say. It’s the disbelief, the dismissal, the attitude that makes somebody feel like they’re a damn liar. THAT SHIT CHANGES HOW A PERSON SEES YOU. Every time you dismiss somebody’s pain, you chip away at their willingness to open up to you. Every time you make them feel like they have to defend their own reality, you teach them to keep their struggles to themselves. Every time you make them feel misunderstood, you create distance that apologies alone might not fix. And then people wonder why somebody who used to share everything suddenly gets quiet. Why they stop explaining. Why they stop reaching out. Why they start handling everything on their own. BECAUSE THEY’RE FUCKING TIRED! Tired of explaining. Tired of defending. Tired of being questioned. Tired of feeling alone while surrounded by people who claim to love them. And the saddest part? Sometimes the people creating that distance don’t even realize they’re doing it. I REFUSE to spend the rest of my life begging people to believe me about MY OWN BODY. I refuse to keep exhausting myself trying to make people understand a reality they have no interest in respecting. I refuse to feel guilty for resting, for hurting, for having a flare, or for needing to slow down. I AM ALLOWED TO HAVE A LIFE AND STILL BE SICK. I AM ALLOWED TO HAVE FUN AND STILL SUFFER THE CONSEQUENCES. I AM ALLOWED TO SMILE ONE DAY AND STRUGGLE THE NEXT. NONE OF THAT MAKES ME A LIAR! And to anybody who has ever had to defend their illness to a loved one, I KNOW THAT ANGER. I know how deeply it cuts when the very people you want comfort from become the people you feel you have to protect yourself against. I’M NOT ASKING YOU TO FEEL MY PAIN. I’M ASKING YOU TO STOP ACTING LIKE YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO DISMISS IT. Because one day, people will wish they had listened more, questioned less, and shown a little more compassion. And I refuse to wait until that day to say what needs to be said. When I’m gone please don’t sit there and cry like you cared so much. 🙄 Just remember what you said. Remember how you treated me. Thanks. #ChronicIllness #LupusAwareness #InvisibleIllness #BelieveTheSick #ChronicButterfly
