@officialkittenlady: Aussie friends, is this normal?! I was just about to sit down for breakfast when a cockatoo swooped onto the porch. I went to snap a little photo and that’s when he grabbed an entire piece of toast! Coming from the states where cockatoos only exist in cages, I am always so thrilled to see them flying freely here…but this was my first time experiencing such a close encounter. P.S. Don’t (intentionally) feed birds bread! It has little nutritional value and can encourage dependence on humans, which is the opposite of what wild animals need. Given his boldness, I have a feeling this guy has helped himself to human food before, and may be working as part of a very large network of professional food thieves. P.P.S. If you live in Melbourne (or can make it to Melbourne for the weekend!) please come see me at Cat Lovers Festival on Saturday and Sunday! I’m giving talks at 11am both days, and will be signing books, doing q&a sessions, and even doing a special breakfast hangout Sunday morning (no cockatoos are invited to the breakfast.)
