Super interesting. Saw a post from lesserKnown, if you leave regiment on honorable terms and go to another SOF unit you’re authorized to wear the tan beret with whatever flash

For everyone wondering SF & Ranger batt do a knowledge transfer from time to time so an SF Guy will be attached to Ranger Batt and a Ranger will be attached to an ODA. It’s basically like cross training points of view.

He’s National Guard SF, if you served in the ranger regiment (and didn’t get RSF’d) you are authorized to wear your tan beret whenever you want. SGM Payne actually wore his Tan Beret despite being in CAG. You can also do the same with the Green Beret. This is all in accordance with AR 670-1.

Everyone seems confused here….more than likely he was an active duty ranger. Who then went to 19th/20th in a support role, and retains his tan beret…..

20th... okay.. lol. But here is a little fun fact for you future hard chargers. If you go to regiment and get your scroll (deployment side) and your tab you get to keep your tan berret while still under the socom umbrella. That's why he has a tan berret in group. Makes you stand out in a sea of maroon berret... Be tactical about your career choices, nsdq/rltw

He may just be attached, or with duty at; therefore he may be auth to wear his original headgear but change the flash and unit crest to where he is temporarily assigned. Perhaps. Hence the difference btw big army and SOF.

He is a ranger from 75th, that left on good terms, and is allowed to wear his tan beret with 20th SFG (A) flash.

If he’s in an NG SF Group, nonSF tab, I believe that beret should be maroon.

He is a former active soldier who has now joined the 20th SFG in the National guard. He is not SF qualified but Ranger and wears the Coveted Tan Beret not that faggot ass green one they frequently issue without training called the “paper tab”

I’ve never seen a tan beret with a SF logo. I’m assuming he’s an NG 18 series.

I didn’t think you could rock a colored beret if you leave the unit. You giant wear a maroon beret if you go leg. The beret is for the unit, not the soldier
