Amir :
Hello guys, I just wanted to share something personal which its understanding should help resolve the issues with the different Shia Muslim groups, particularly the “Seyed” class/grouping. Basically, for those unfamiliar, in Shia Islam (to my understanding) if you’re born in the paternal lineage tied directly back to the Prophet, you get a “Seyed” in front of your name. It functions essentially as like a title of honour basically to my understanding. Your first name (which your parents chose for you follows the Seyed part as your official legal first name in your documents, etc.). Basically (hopefully without offending anyone), I am going to explain to you why (though seemingly proper on face value), it is actually flawed. I will use myself as an example. I am born in Iran (but migrated to Canada in elementary school). In my Iranian passport, my name starts with Seyed. In my Canadian passport my name starts with Seyed. In my father’s passport his name starts with a Seyed. Apparently somewhere someone in the family somewhere has a document tracing back the lineage to show how it traces back to the Prophet (PBUH) and how that makes us Seyeds. However, I have done a genetics/dna test (and have the raw results too!). Before I continue, I am just going to make some obvious well known information brought to the forefront. It is (from my understanding) commonly understood that the Prophet is from a tribe called Qureysh which at that time were the guardians and caretakers of Mecca 🕋 (in the form it was before Islam was introduced). It is also very well commonly known that Qureysh were an Arab tribe (generally tribes are of a consistent genetics and lineage from my understanding). In genetic/DNA testing, there is something called a “Haplogroup”. A haplogroup basically is the genetic signature passed down through your father (and his father’s lineage - just as the “Seyed” marker is supposed to be). It is generally commonly understood that for Qureysh was an Arab tribe, and Arab genetics usually are Haplogroup J 1 or J 2. From this we can conclude that if I were truly a “Seyed” (even though my passport and naming convention and history suggest that I were), then
