Best example is actually the chicken joke. "why did the chicken cross the road" "to get to the other side" I have been believing for 18 years that they meant the other side of the road

No I totally get it, I just want people to use their words correctly because I don’t want to play games with nuance

“Do you want to turn on the light?” No. Confused why you think I’d suddenly want to turn on the light with 0 context. Versus “Would you turn on the light for me please?” Are very different ways of communicating. Say what you mean, in plain English, my gosh. I’m not the problem.

And it works both ways actually. I'm autistic and when I took my dad's backpack in a bus and put it on my lap, I commented "oh it's heavy". That's all I said. And I immediately got a response from him that our trip barely started and I'm complaining already. I wasn't, it didn't bother me that it's heavy, I just noticed that it is. But he saw more to that and responded to what I never said.

i hate when I’m preparing food and a family comes over, stares at what I’m doing and says “are you going to eat all of it?”. It’s not that I don’t want to share, i just find it annoying when people don’t just ask directly instead of these weird social codes and implications

As an adult I now understand the implied through trial and error, but now the implied pisses me off cuz you could just be direct and ask for your needs so I ignore the implied as an adult as well. 😏

i recently learned ‘eye contact’ doesn’t mean staring directly at someone’s eyeballs but generally looking at their face, it actually helped me make eye contact more normally lmao

And then once we learn that ‘you’re standing in front of the fridge’ means ‘move’ they switch it up on us and suddenly it means ‘grab me the eggs’.

if anything i would slightly be annoyed because it is sort of rude for someone to directly point out what you are doing instead of saying what they need

But why would I only point out where you're standing? Like what would be the point. I could have just noted it down in my head. If I said it outloud then I obviously need something, otherwise there is no point at all to me telling you where you're standing

The stuff i never get is like yeah sure obviously, but at every age? Like sometimes it seems like some autistic people don't even try to learn it, like a a kid or teenager yeah sure i didn't know most of this stuff either especially cause i got diagnosed at 22 so i didknow at the time, but i still learned that most of the time nt's imply certain things especially stuff like that, "you are standing there=move away" "how was this and that?=wants a story about the event not just one example" like i know every autistic person is 100% unique but still its something that i hear so often but mostly from grown adults who seem to not idk if its the right word but "want" to learn to understand (ik some people literally dont wanna, like ego and pride things but still)

What pisses me off the most is when my parents specifically say “hey do you want to go take out the trash?” As a way of asking me to go take out the trash, but like, no, I don’t want to take out the trash. So I’ll answer “no I don’t really want to, but I will if you ask me to do it” as a way to try and get them to learn to stop. It’s like if you want me to do something, just ask me to do it, don’t imply shit at me!
