@jos.pham.nguyen.sdb: On May 13, 1981, Pope St. John Paul II was greeting pilgrims in St. Peter’s Square when Mehmet Ali Ağca shot him. The Pope suffered serious injuries and underwent emergency surgery. But one detail made the event especially striking: it happened on the feast day of Our Lady of Fatima, commemorating Mary’s first apparition to the three shepherd children in 1917. After surviving the assassination attempt, John Paul II attributed his survival to Mary’s maternal protection. He later visited Fatima and offered one of the bullets that had wounded him as a gift to the shrine. It was placed in the crown of the statue of Our Lady of Fatima. The Pope often reflected on the mysterious connection between that day and his survival. For him, it was not coincidence alone, but a profound sign of the Virgin Mary’s intercession. “One hand fired, and another guided the bullet.” This famous reflection captures the Pope’s conviction that he had been spared for a purpose. Our Lady of Fatima, pray for us. St. John Paul II, pray for us. #OurLadyOfFatima #SaintJohnPaulII #CatholicFaith #MarianDevotion #CatholicHistory
