Kate, the Princess of Wales, revealed in a video message released on Friday that she has been diagnosed with cancer and is currently undergoing chemotherapy. This comes two months after she underwent “major” abdominal surgery, the details of her cancer type have not been disclosed. The announcement coincides with her father-in-law, King Charles, also receiving cancer treatment. “Inevitably, this news came as a tremendous shock, and William and I have been diligently managing and processing it privately for the well-being of our young family,” stated Kate, 42, in the video filmed at Windsor on Wednesday. “As one might expect, it has taken time. I needed to recuperate from the major surgery before commencing my treatment.” Post-operative tests following her mid-January abdominal surgery revealed the presence of cancer, Kate disclosed. Kate referred to her surgery as “major abdominal surgery” and mentioned in her video that initially, it was believed her condition was non-cancerous. The specific type of surgery she underwent has not been disclosed. “The surgery was deemed successful,” Kate stated. “However, post-operative tests revealed the presence of cancer. Consequently, my medical team recommended a course of preventative chemotherapy, which I have now commenced.” When Kate underwent surgery, Kensington Palace had stated her condition was non-cancerous. Since then, little information has been provided about her condition. “We’ve taken the time to explain everything to George, Charlotte, and Louis in an age-appropriate manner and reassure them that I will be alright,” Kate explained. “As I’ve told them, I am doing well and am becoming stronger each day by focusing on activities that promote healing—mind, body, and spirit.”
