There’s a reason some bridges burned — and in toxic, dysfunctional, and narcissistic environments, there are often a million reasons why they should stay that way. It didn’t always feel that clear, especially at first, even when I wasn’t the one who struck the match that burned it all to the ground. For years, I stood at the edge of those ashes, wondering Should I reach out? Should I try one more time? Should I be the bigger person, again? Because I’d been taught that reconnection is always the goal. That a “good” person keeps rebuilding. That creating distance is somehow my failure. I used to believe all of that, until I realized that the only thing ever waiting for me on the other side of that bridge was The same tension. The same patterns. The same tired scripts. And the same version of me that had to keep myself small to keep them comfortable. It was then, standing in the smoke and ash, that I finally understood that not every collapse is a tragedy, and not every ending is a mistake waiting to be corrected. That I finally understood any fires sparked by truth should be allowed to burn. Healing doesn’t always look like repair. Sometimes it looks like standing still on your own side of the river and finally letting the smoke clear. It looks like noticing how quiet it is over here. How steady. How much lighter you feel when you’re no longer bracing for impact every time someone walks across. You can grieve what that bridge was supposed to be AND be grateful it’s gone. Letting the ashes stay ashes feels like Freedom. 💫🙌 Share with someone who needs this reminder today. ❤️
