I’ve removed myself from his presence. I used to try to fix his mood. Now I don’t care I just leave and find peace and quiet somewhere else. And I take the kids. So he can sit at home by himself and make himself miserable.

So when you stop engaging and stop fueling their ego and supply, when do they finally go away and leave you alone. It’s definitely not when they have new supply or get into relationships because they always come back poking around at some point during those times. No contact is great, until they find other ways around what you have already blocked. When do they finally just give up and leave you alone?

My husband has literally said out loud that my autonomy is a character flaw. That wanting autonomy makes me ‘broken’.

I'm learning now..23 years with Narc husband,it was good and we had fun and a lot in common.I am definitely a nurturing empathetic person.I became his personal assistant chauffeur and Chef.I am a shell of the person I was when we met.He died from Alcoholism 4 years ago.I was so embarrassed to tell anyone - the small world he put me in- My immediate family is gone, all dead. when he died, his family ghosted me. All his material things, that he spoiled himself with- I had to get up and Downsize - he left me very alone and depressed, anxious and really scared 😳 it took finding the women that suffered as I did to want to heal. I was just a shrunken person. He insulted me and belittled me into the ground.

I was eight years post divorce when I finally realized he was still controlling me all of those years. When I flipped that switch, he gave up. He walked away from me and his two kids because he was not man enough to apologize to one of his children, and he had no control over me anymore which meant he had no control over how the children reflected him. They could never be perfect enough for him, but for him they were keychains to be admired, as if he had something to do with the amazing human beings they turned out to be. It's been the best 12 years of our lives!

Once I stopped giving him easy supply in our relationship he crashed out real fast. And believe me, I spent the 20 years before that decision trying every trick under the goddamn sun to grow and heal from childhood trauma and learn to be a better communicator. Funny thing, though; none of that matters if your partner witnesses the ways they’re hurting you and feels no need to change. Once I started asserting my autonomy and investing less in our relationship, he couldn’t survive living with me. And now we’re getting divorced!

The thing is. I didn’t mind that he did volunteer events. I minded he was specifically pursuing friendships with women especially given our marriage was going through a rough phase. I followed the advice of my therapist and set a boundary. He flipped out. Said I was trying to control him and take away his autonomy and he’d never do that to me. Once I started sticking to my boundaries and working harder at not giving him the reactions I once did, drove him crazy. It was tough though because I was also trying to find the right treatment for perimenopause and by this time I’m deep into trauma and the abuse as well so I did react but it got better once I realized what was going on and trying to more so hold him accountable and then I noticed he was devaluing me and starting the discard. All of my instincts and intuition over the course of our years together (22 years to be exact) - knowing I was more than likely right all of this time and he made me believe I was crazy…this will take awhile for me to work through but thank goodness I’m in therapy and trying to get my power back. I’ve had some things confirmed by seeing it myself but he would still deny or flip it or I had someone finally come clean about a few things, I can only imagine what else he’s done. We have kids together so I still have to see him and I can barely look at him.

Happened with my mom. She went psycho when I moved out because she couldn't control me anymore. It is intolerable to them and it can escalate...like REALLY ESCALATE BAD. My mom started stalking me, had her flying monkey friends stalking me and harassing me "stop this nonsense and go back home to your mother". I wasnt a runaway child, I was a full legal adult paying their own bills FFS. She tried breaking into my apt multiple times in the middle of the night. Asked my neighbors to spy on me and report to her. And (saved the best for last) she even threatened to unalive herself if I didnt come back. When that didn't work she begged to move in with me (despite having her own home. Because she couldnt stand me having privacy and my own space where she couldnt monitor me 24/7). Said she would unalive herself if I said no. Still told her no. When I use to live with her she use to say "There cant be two queens in one castle" as a way to say she was the queen and the boss. So later when she guilt tripped me for saying she cant live with me "you wont let your own mother live with you? you would really do this to your own mother?" I threw her words back in her face "sorry mom, you taught me that there can't be two queens in one castle".
