@therapistmomunfiltered: Are you worried your teenager is pulling away from you? Spending more time in their room, giving one-word answers, or avoiding conversations? Here's something many parents don't realize: If most of your interactions with your teen revolve around nagging, homework, grades, chores, and correcting their behavior, they may begin to associate YOU with stress. And when someone becomes a source of stress, we naturally want distance. Think of your parent-teen relationship like an emotional bank account. Every positive interaction makes a deposit. Constant criticism, conflict, and pressure can make withdrawals. If you want your teenager to open up, start creating more positive experiences together. Laugh. Be curious. Enjoy their company without an agenda. Notice what they're doing right. **Your teen needs to experience you as someone they enjoy being around, not just someone who manages their responsibilities.** Connection is the foundation of influence. Follow for more therapist-informed parenting tips to reduce power struggles and build a stronger relationship with your teenager. #ParentingTeens #TeenConnection #ParentTeenRelationship #RaisingTeenagers #ParentingAdvice

Calm Confident Teens :
Great reminder. It is easy to slip into business and start correcting/nagging.

A funny meme or a favorite song on a drive sounds like deposits any teen would accept. Our 16 year old calls me Old Man and Bald Man, and the teasing is how I know our account is in good shape. Looking forward to the rest of the series.

I just asked my 14 year old why she is so distant from me this week and she said she feels like I hate her at times bc I’m never happy with her. I only talk to her to correct her for something or nag. 😭 I felt AWFUL. I apologized to her and told her I would do much better. Sometimes we don’t know what we are doing. I was grateful she felt comfortable enough to be honest with me.
