HOW TO WRITE A CRITICAL LITERATURE REVIEW: 8 ESSENTIAL STEPS FOR STRONGER RESEARCH! A strong literature review is more than a summary of what other researchers have written. It evaluates evidence, compares findings, identifies research gaps, and builds a convincing argument for your own study. Whether you're writing a PhD thesis, master's dissertation, DBA capstone, or research paper, these **8 essential steps** will help you approach your literature review more strategically. 🔍 THE 8 STEPS TO MASTER 1️⃣ Define Your Purpose and Scope Establish a clear review question, set boundaries, and align your review with your research problem. 2️⃣ Search Systematically Use relevant academic databases, Boolean search terms, and clear inclusion and exclusion criteria. 3️⃣ Read Strategically Identify each study's main argument, methodology, findings, and limitations. Keep a source-tracking matrix. 4️⃣ Evaluate Critically Assess the quality of the evidence, research methods, potential bias, and credibility of sources. 5️⃣ Synthesize, Don't Just Summarize Organize studies around themes and explain how their findings connect to one another. 6️⃣ Compare and Contrast Identify agreements, contradictions, competing theories, and possible reasons for different results. 7️⃣ Identify the Research Gap Highlight what is missing, underexplored, outdated, or contested in existing research. 8️⃣ Write Critically and Link to Your Study Build a logical argument, justify your research objectives, and show how your study responds to the identified gap. 💡 PRO TIP: Before including a source, ask yourself: ✔️ What is the main claim? ✔️ How strong is the evidence? ✔️ What is missing or limited? ✔️ How does it contribute to my research? Remember: Your goal is not simply to demonstrate that you have read the literature. It is to show that you understand the field, can evaluate existing evidence, and can explain where your research fits. 📚 NEED HELP WITH YOUR RESEARCH?
