@rickyisaan: As an Aussie dad raising twin daughters here in the Thai countryside, one thing I’ve always found interesting about the Thai language is that there are different words for grandma depending on which side of the family they’re from. A few people have been asking why our girls call their grandma “Ya” (ย่า) instead of “Yai” (ยาย), which would traditionally be the correct term for their maternal grandmother. The answer is pretty simple. When the girls were younger, “Ya” was easier for them to say, so that’s what stuck. We’ve never really worried too much about correcting it. Personally, my wife and the people around us here in the village don’t think it’s a big deal. Everyone knows who the girls are talking about, and grandma certainly doesn’t seem bothered! But I’m curious what others think. Is this something worth correcting as the girls get older, or is it really not that important? #ThaiVillage #ThaiLanguage #ThaiCulture #RaisingKidsInThailand #AussieDad

It is advisable to provide guidance as your children mature within their social and cultural environment. Anyway, it is not a big deal. Stay safe!

Growing up as a young kid, all the kids/ cousins or someone started it, god knows who, so instead of calling him grandfather or father, his nickname for everyone in the family, he is known as Fa.. Always good to be unique and different and not be so programmed and follow the masses for the sake of it
