The 7 lakes valley hike is a famous hike in Slovenia but when we were planning to do it, we found the information online really confusing. The thing is that a lot of the time there would be two paths that end up at the same destination. So I wanted to make this guide with visuals to help anyone else doing this hike. Parking Platino Blato is the best option. However it is small and spaces run out. We arrived at 8:45am in early July and could park along the road. There is a 20€ fee to use the road which you pay at the end There are also car parks in Stara Fuzina before the toll road to Platino Blato. There are shuttle buses to take you to Platino Blato but they are very infrequent so make sure you check the time. This is also €3/hr for parking so ends up being more expensive if you spend more than 7 hours (which we did) The start of the trail is clearing marked and you are looking for signs to Planini pri Jezeru. Sometimes there are two paths that go in opposite directions but both have Jezeru as a destination. You can take either path as they are the same. At Planini pri Jezeru (1hr) is a hut selling affordable Slovenian soups (10-12€) and there is a toilet too. At the back you can see the first lake. Next you are looking for signs to Planina Ovčarija. You can go either via Dedno Polje or Viševnik. I recommend first going via Dedno polje because the route is faster and flatter. You can take the other path on the way back as it is a lot steeper. At Dedno Polje we had some homemade cheese which was €6 then we continued onto Planina Ovċarija. The Planina Ovčatija intersection is an important one you are looking to go towards Koča pri Triglavskih jezerih but there are two paths. One is via Štapce and the other is via prodov. Via Štapce is a direct steady incline and then a very steep decline where you hold onto cables for a short section. If you’re scared of heights you might want to reconsider doing this because we saw some people turn back because they were not expecting it. It is quite rocky as well. It was fine for us to do but I can imagine if it’s a bit wet or if you are scared of heights it might be difficult. The view at this point was amazing though and probably the best of the hike as you look down at the lakes. Via prodov is a much flatter and a bit longer route. It still has nice views of the mountains further away. We chose to go via Štapce on the way there and then we took prodov on the way back for a change in scenery and because the ascent via Štapce looked REALLY hard At Koča pri Triglavskih jezerih there is a lot of food (€10-18) and coffee was €3. This was a nice place to have some food for a break and this is the turning point for people doing the 1 day hike. The double lakes are also here so spend some time enjoying the view. On the way back we went via prodov and then via Viševnik. This route was longer but there were nice wildflowers. There was also a steep forested section with quite uneven terrain which made going down a bit painful for the knees. Again if you want to avoid this you can just go back via Dedno Polje. Hope this guide is helpful for you and ask me anything! We did this hike early July 2026 #slovenia #sloveniatravel #triglav #triglavlakesvalley #hikingtrail
