@rtenews: As thousands of their former colleagues go on strike, two young teachers have been explaining why they left Ireland to work in Australia. Rebecca and Sinéad say their new jobs in Perth come with better pay and conditions, as well as an improved work life balance. They say they are fully backing today’s 24-hour action, even though they’re now living on the other side of the world. #teachers #strike #australia #ireland

Dom :

I left for Australia 4 years ago. It’s almost incomparable on wages to living expenses. Different career but earning over more than double I’d earn back in Ireland for this career. Sad to see really that it’s came to this.

Willie Harrold :

The cost of living in Aus is worse ... housing is out of control

userbiz8 :

I feel for all young people in Ireland but teachers complaint about workload? Give us a break!

user7143143173292 :

If people keep voting FF and FG this appalling situation will NOT change. These young people are educated and qualified and our government offers them nothing but a future overseas.

🇵🇸 🇨🇩 WITNESS 🇸🇩 🇾🇪 :

This is an advertisement, Australia has the same problems that exist here

EDillon :

They should build affordable housing for Irish people to get them on the property ladder ,they build them back in the 70’s and 80’s ,three bedroom with garage if you want to convert into extra room ,you had to live in for ten years ,,can’t understand the government not able to do this ,in our government most never had a business so can’t actually think outside the box ,we need people to settle down and have families governments don’t get it

Ethan_golfz :

I've a lot of respect for teachers, it's a job I wouldn't enjoy nowadays with how hard it can be dealing with kids or parents. But the starting salary for teachers is significantly higher than many other professions coming out of college, not to mention the time off? Not sure what they're complaining about? It is a little frustrating as so many people are struggling with the cost of living crisis, but the teachers will go on a few strikes and will probably end up getting whatever they want.

mayo1977mayo :

never mind the teachers what about the nurses,ya on about work loads

user9883166181180 :

The Drama” They all think they will return with money “ But very few ever return with anything with the costs in Australia “ They will return alright “ But only with a pocket full of memory’s..

Combo Rush Over :( :

Salaries in Australia are very similar. Cost of living is also similar. Owning a harm in a city in Australia is not attainable. You will live in the outer suburbs and commute long distances

user2333702094525 :

You’ll never be well off from a teachers salary in Ireland. Facts. So factor that into your cao form choices and career plans.

BobLDN :

Until you get to Australia after a couple of years desperate to leave. Home is home

Frankie :

its far too corrupted now

Mark Healy :

1 is a school teacher operating a machine in a site!!,

Your hero ☘️ :

My daughter is 17 and wants to become a teacher and says she will move away when she is q because she wud have no life here because it’s so expensive 😞😞😡😡

Fruit :

Sorry but teachers are better paid than nurses. Yes it’s a hard job but so is nursing and the holidays are good compensation for the work .

Conrad :

Australia is as expensive as Ireland! They’ll all tell ya I’m Earning $5000 per week while it takes $4800 to live there..

user2333702094525 :

The contract business needs to be changed in Ireland. First off no one should have to wait two years for a permanent contract. It should be max six months. So need to outlaw permanent contracts being held open for those on career breaks while they work tax free in the UAE.

Druid of the Woods :

we live in a feudalistic government. the unions calling a strike actually removes public sector workers pay for these strikes, creating a surplus of money that will be used in a 'deal'

Eugene Booth :

Ireland doesnt need teachers that are full of negativity.

Lauramcdaniel8 :

Very sad how this country is going

o :

:my cousin a teacher went to north port Florida. house cost 300k can get home to Ireland 10 hours and very similar to Australia 🦘

Brian O'Connor :

We're stuck in California. Healthcare is horrendous at home

Dan95 :

I wish I could run with my daughter too but it’s not that easy
