A heartbreaking photograph titled “The Aftermath”, captured by Italian photographer Federico Veronesi in Namibia, has won the prestigious Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2026 award. Selected from 65,403 entries across 121 countries and territories, the image shows a female elephant carrying her lifeless calf. Researchers found that the elephant had previously lost her own calf and had also been observed carrying other dead calves. Experts suggest this behaviour may reflect grief or an attempt to understand death, although the exact reason remains unknown. #WildlifePhotography #Elephants #WildlifePhotographerOfTheYear #NaturePhotography #DigitalNepalOfficial - @digitalnepalofficial
