Line it up before you cut the wire, cut the wire and push it in place

Jack stands under the frame, and Jack under the axle. that way you can use the Jack to adjust the height of the axle making it easier to get the strut lined up

simple trick if you can't compress those use a small rolling jack make it a lot easier
