Everyone knew Winter. Or rather, everyone knew of her. She was the girl who never smiled, never spoke unless she had to, walked fast, kept her head down, and looked at everyone like they were just getting in her way. Always serious, always distant cold, unfriendly, unapproachable. No one had the courage to get close. No one had any idea what lay beneath that quiet, sharp exterior. Except Karina. Karina was the exact opposite warm, bright, kind, always smiling, always greeting everyone she passed, the kind of person who lit up a room just by walking into it. And for some reason no one could quite understand, she loved bothering Winter. Every morning, Karina would approach Winter with that same gentle, bright smile. “Good morning, Winter!” Winter would glance at her briefly, give a single short nod, and keep walking. “Morning.” Karina would laugh softly, completely unfazed. “You’re so grumpy. Good thing I’m the patient one.” Winter didn’t reply. She just kept walking, her face expressionless, but her heart her stupid, traitorous heart was beating a little faster than it ever had before. ---- Days turned into weeks, and Karina never stopped. She’d sit right beside Winter even when Winter gave her the coldest, most uninterested look. She’d share her food even when Winter just took it silently without saying a word of thanks. She’d ask how her day was going even when the answer was always the same short, dry, one-word reply. People whispered behind their backs. “Why does Karina even bother? Winter is so cold all the time.” “She doesn’t care about anyone. Karina’s just wasting her kindness.” Karina heard every word, but she didn’t care. She saw things no one else did. She noticed how Winter’s ears turned pink whenever she gave her a compliment. She noticed how Winter would slow her steps just to walk beside her, even when she pretended she was just going the same way. She noticed how Winter always made sure she got home safely, walking a few quiet steps behind her like a silent, protective shadow. One afternoon, Karina found Winter sitting alone. “Why do you always act so cold toward everyone else?” Karina asked softly. Winter looked away, hands deep in her pockets. “I’m not cold. I just don’t like most people.” “Not even me?” Karina teased gently. Winter didn’t look at her, but her voice dropped to a quiet murmur. “…You’re different.” Karina smiled, her heart swelling. “See? I knew it. You’re not really this cold, unfriendly person everyone thinks you are. You’re just… shy. Or maybe scared.” Winter shot her a quick glare, but there was no real sharpness in it. “I’m not grumpy. This is just how I am.” “Okay,” Karina said, beaming. “No matter how grumpy you are, I’ll still like you. That will never change.” Winter stood there, completely still, staring at her. For just a moment, her carefully built walls cracked. Just for a second, Karina saw something soft in her eyes. Something warm. Something that said you have no idea how much you mean to me. But then Winter looked away, cleared her throat, and walked ahead. “You’re so annoying,” Winter mumbled, but there was a tiny, almost invisible smile playing at the corner of her lips. #winrinaau # #foryou #xyzbca continuation in comsec
