Final year social work student here. If you think of a question, ask it, dont be afraid to. Know you are allowed boundaries. Be vocal (professionally) if things make you feel uncomfortable etc. Ask to visit/shadow different people and departments and know youre allowed to say no to things. You're there to learn. Above all enjoy every moment and be in that portfolio every other day!!! Best of luck 🥰

Hey girl, nqsw here! Make lots of notes, try to shadow as much as possible, especially other teams as it’ll give you more understanding of different roles / remits. Best thing i learnt was ask questions! Challenge things if you don’t agree, use professional curiosity and lean on your student status when asking questions, colleagues are generally quite open x

My main advice would be having boundaries in place. I remember on my placement any jobs that some didn’t want to do that a student could technically do was always passed onto us. Yes it’s important to help out but you’re there to learn and grow as a social worker, not to do everyone’s odd jobs they don’t want to do!

It’s been a while since I did placements …nearly 15 years ago haha take a note book write notes ! Dnt be afraid to ask questions ,if your not sure about anything always ask …even if it’s the simple where’s the toilets ? Or the code for this door etc ? Try to enjoy it and take it all in ! You get overloaded with information from your placements but it helps pave your career whether that be with children’s or adults etc xx

Make use of supervision as much as possible! I found it so useful for my first placement. Heading into my last placement in November!

Hello Chloe!! I’m not a social worker - but I am a registered manager of children’s homes! Depending what area of social work you’re going into, always happy to have a chat around children’s homes/residential schools! Xx

Take a notebook- write down things you want to ask, things you’ve been asked to do- and it massively helps with writing up notes for placement/mapping pcf’s, work undertaken etc. so easy to forget the bits you’ve done so I found that really helped. Also write bits up twice a week instead of letting it all build up😁
