🦁 THE GARDENIA BOYS OLERAI & MASIKIO Meet Olerai and Masikio, the two young lions known as the Gardenia Boys. Together, they are building their place with the Survey Pride in Kenya’s Maasai Mara. Gardenia is the name of their coalition; Survey is the pride they are associated with. The brothers are linked to the Kaskaz line of the northern Serengeti, associated with the older males Omokale, Bron and Rami. Masikio is often described as Omokale’s son and Olerai as Bron’s, although accounts differ about their exact fathers. Their mothers and precise birth dates have not been reliably established. Olerai is the larger of the two, with a beautiful blond mane and a generally calmer manner. Masikio’s name means “ears” in Swahili. His marked ear and facial scar make him easier to recognise, while his boldness often puts him at the centre of the action. Following Omokale’s passing, the brothers moved further into Survey Pride territory. They have been seen patrolling, scent marking and spending time with the lionesses. Their rise has brought tense encounters with the older Bron and the five Rongai Rockers. One encounter with Bron became especially chaotic. Bron challenged Masikio, while Olerai appeared to turn on his brother in the confusion perhaps trying to support Bron. The brothers have also sparred with each other over mating opportunities. Yet through these tense moments, they continue to travel and face the challenges of the Mara together. Their arrival has been difficult for some younger Survey Pride females, with observers reporting attempts to drive them away. At other times, Olerai has been seen peacefully beside the pride’s cubs. Those gentle moments are wonderful to watch, although they do not confirm which male fathered the cubs. Powerful, ambitious and still learning, Olerai and Masikio are writing a new chapter for the Survey Pride. Where will the Gardenia Boys’ journey take them next? 🎥📸credits: @teekupatelfotofilm, @sokomotoimages, @brian_wild_gallery_, @sergiowildlife7, @andrewnkongoni & @nickthomas4650 #lion #maasaimara #brother #wildlife #kenyantiktok🇰🇪
