🪴 THE POT YOU PUT YOUR PLANT IN MATTERS WAY MORE THAN YOU THINK! A plant in the wrong pot can become a constant battle with watering, root rot, drying out, and even temperature stress. Here’s how I choose my pots: 🏺 TERRACOTTA: Best for plants that like to dry out between waterings. It’s VERY porous, so moisture evaporates through the sides and the soil dries faster. Great for succulents, cacti, snake plants, hoyas, and other plants that hate staying wet. The downside? You’ll need to water more frequently so avoid putting anything moisture sensitive into this material!!! 🪴 PLASTIC: Holds onto moisture longer because it doesn’t breathe. This is great for plants that prefer consistently moist soil or for anyone who tends to forget to water. It’s also lightweight, inexpensive, and doesn’t heat up or cool down as quickly (except black plastic pots which conduct heat in direct sun) 🤍 CERAMIC: Glazed ceramic behaves much more like plastic because the glaze prevents water from evaporating through the pot. Unglazed ceramic is more breathable! Ceramic is also heavier, which can be a huge advantage for large plants that get top heavy! 💧 DRAINAGE I don’t care how gorgeous the pot is… if there’s no drainage hole, I don’t want my plant living in it. A decorative pot without drainage can work as a cachepot: keep your plant in a nursery pot with drainage and drop it inside. So before you buy a pot because it’s cute, ask : Does this plant like to dry out or stay moist? Does the pot have drainage? How quickly do I want the soil to dry? And is this pot going to get HOT? Because sometimes the best thing you can buy for your plant isn’t another fertilizer or fancy soil! It’s the right pot. 🪴 #planttips #howto #gardeningtiktokcontest ##gardening#garden
