I hear all the time, “It’s just a few clips.” Okay, then let’s go back and include more. Because if we’re going to have this conversation, let’s look at the bigger picture. What’s the pattern we’re noticing here? And are we really going to call this appropriate behavior from the pulpit? “If the barn needs paint, paint the barn.” Are we serious right now? We’re going to sit back and allow a man standing behind a pulpit to shame women and imply that they need makeup? Since when is that what biblical teaching is supposed to look like? “I asked Fabian’s momma if she was happy in her marriage in front of my wife.” Oh, yes, because it’s just so funny to joke about the idea of taking another wife because she cooks good Mexican food. What exactly are we laughing at here? “We don’t know if you Chinese or Hispanic.” Then proceeds to pull his eyes back to mock the appearance associated with Chinese culture. And we’re going to defend mocking an entire culture, too? Wow. “Ain’t no heaven with Mexicans and tacos and Black people teaching white people how to dance.” I don’t even have to explain this one. It speaks for itself. “You know the Holy Ghost move when we got a weave to pick up.” Uhh… what? Do I need to keep going, or are we eventually going to stop making excuses long enough to recognize the pattern? This is not about taking a few clips out of context. It’s about looking at the words being spoken, the people being mocked, the women being shamed, and the attitudes being presented to a congregation as entertainment. We need to ask ourselves a serious question: Does this reflect the biblical teachings, humility, and character we should expect from someone standing in the pulpit? Church leadership should not be above accountability. A title, a position, or a congregation full of supporters should never mean someone is beyond being questioned. And what makes this even more concerning is how many things seem to get swept under the rug rather than addressed. I personally know people who have come forward about their experiences with this church and how uncomfortable they have felt, too. At what point do we stop dismissing concerns and start listening? Accountability is not persecution. Asking questions is not automatically an attack. And speaking up about behavior that concerns you does not mean you have turned your back on God. My relationship with God is not defined by my willingness to stay silent about a person in leadership. Discernment matters. Character matters. And the way we treat other people matters. I genuinely believe change starts when people are willing to speak up, even when it is uncomfortable. Not because we want to tear anyone down, but because we should want better from the people entrusted with spiritual leadership. I'm not asking anyone to blindly agree with me. I'm asking people to look at the bigger picture, think critically, and stop dismissing every concern as “just a few clips.” You cannot address a pattern if you refuse to acknowledge it exists. Speak up. Ask questions. Hold leadership accountable. Change can only happen when we are willing to stop looking the other way and start having honest conversations as a community. 🤍 #twc #theworshipcenter #lubbock #lubbocktexas #discernment
