@jotxir: Martin Heidegger, the German existentialist philosopher, built much of his life's work around one unsettling idea that most people live in denial of their own death, and that denial is exactly what keeps them from ever truly living. He called it "being-toward-death": the idea that a person only becomes fully authentic, fully alive, once they stop avoiding mortality and let it sharpen how they spend their remaining time. Heidegger believed most people do the opposite they numb themselves with distraction, routine, and "someday," and in doing so, they don't escape death. They just guarantee they'll meet it having never really lived. That's the quiet horror behind this line. The fear isn't the ending itself it's arriving at it empty-handed, having spent a whole life preparing for a "someday" that never came.
