@dr.dan_dpt: As a PT that works with a lot of professional dancers, these symptoms look very familiar. The levator scapular attaches to the upper 4 vertebrae in the neck and when it’s tight and problematic it limits how well those joints can move leading to symptoms. Even though the symptoms are largely at the joint level, addressing the muscle has been the thing that leads to the best long term results. Manual therapy to restore normal movement to the joints and to release the tension in the muscle paired with shoulder strengthening and postural awareness has been my one two punch dealing with this pain. I’m a huge Dancing With The Stars fan and this moment had my PT brain fully activated. I’m rooting for you @MauraHiggins !! #physicaltherapy #dancersoftiktok #dancingwiththestars
The choreography with the neck rotation/extension had me yelling at him through the TV like I get there are required elements but COME ON 😂😭

Have you considered the addition and complications of the levator Claviculae being present, obviously not always visible and treatment to deal with the lev scap could further aggravate the LC muscle?

Could it also be potential a facet impingement too, as if the extension side bend and rotation to that side could be a positive quadrant test?

Ugh, this happened to me simply turning my head one morning in the kitchen. My psoriatic arthritis makes it more likely but man did it hurt.

I’ve wondered how they handle the muscle pain they must have from all that exercise and movement. Onsite PT makes sense!

I was thinking more of a disc/nerve compression based on neck position and severity
