On The Iced Coffee Hour, Mitte said an IRS letter alerted him to unpaid taxes and penalties after roughly five years of payments he thought had been made. He alleged that his manager kept the checks he wrote for taxes and sent him fake IRS filings, moving money through offshore accounts and shell companies. He brought in a new CPA, an attorney and a forensic accountant to untangle what had happened. The debt took him 10 years to repay, with compounding interest reaching roughly 17% in some accounts, he said. “I’ve paid more in taxes than I got from Breaking Bad.” Recovering the money seemed unlikely. Mitte estimated that litigation, appeals and forensic accounting could cost millions and drag on for years, with little chance of recovering funds that had gone offshore and were no longer in his manager’s name. “At the end of the day, though, it’s my negligence,” he said. He claimed she had targeted at least 14 other actors, “primarily people with disabilities, elderly, like older actors in the industry.” Mitte died by suicide at his home in Brownsville, Texas, on October 12, at 34. His representative, Sean Reilly, confirmed the cause. Now, a report published October 13 cites unnamed sources claiming he was “nearly broke” and facing “severe financial problems.” One claimed he was “struggling to afford to pay for a nice wedding to his fiancée, and that broke his heart.” Another said he felt she “deserved someone better.” Mitte and Kennedy Suarez had been friends for more than a decade before they began dating around 2020. By their engagement, they had been together about five years and were living in Brownsville. Suarez worked remotely as an HR generalist and joined him in his advocacy work. He called her “my everything” and “my person, my partner in life who makes me want to be better.” He proposed on October 10, 2025, Suarez’s 30th birthday, in front of guests at the Dia del Sol benefit in Carlsbad, California. The event supported United Cerebral Palsy of San Diego, for which Mitte was an ambassador. They had not begun formal wedding planning when their engagement was announced that October. The October 13 report claims they were “in the middle of planning their wedding” before his death, two days after their engagement anniversary. No wedding date had been publicly announced.
