I was the child of an alcoholic...my dad left many times, and as a kid, you love your parent regardless....they just don't understand that dad is sick. Even when they're drunk, you want them home just to know they are there. He's better now in his old age, grace be to God.

he didn't have to put that on her, he should have taken responsibility for his own actions that led to the mom being pushed into the corner. that's triangulation to the fullest. what happens among adults is just that...all he really should have said to his son was good bye buddy, Im going to leave. because he would've been pissed if she put that on him. they have a child together and sometimes you gotta think about the child more than yourself

This movie is partly why I refused to marry my son's father at 18, and boy oh boy did I make the right call. (I fully understand in the 60s I wouldn't have had that choice). The older women I then worked in an office with at 20 were elated that i wasn't married.
