Yeah this is where my position diverges from choice feminism. You cannot convince me that basing your entire livelihood on the whims of a man is the right choice for anyone. Yes you can be a homemaker ofc but you should always have financial provisions and a level of independence / purpose in your life

Totally agree. And we don’t have “tradhusbands” who promise to take personal financial liability on behalf of all family expenses and therefore the word “tradwife” is too close to “slave” imo

Do you make a distinction between being a a “stay at home mom” versus a “tradwife”? In my estimation, the only way to ensure that women don’t stay home ever is to make life so expensive that it is impossible to live off of one income, which will have terrible consequences for so many people. I agree with what you are saying in a lot of ways, I think there needs to be a cultural push in a lot of different areas, and that we can make definitive statements about what’s wrong or right, but the legislation piece always makes me nervous. Also, in the same way that it would be immoral to make it impossible for women to work and have careers, I think it’s immoral to create a system where it is impossible for to care for her home and children.

I agree with you! I think we got lost in the “feminism is choice” discourse. So, having said that, my view is that when people bring up wanting to be “trad wives” as mothers, I say it’s ok if it’s contracted and you get pension funded and financial reward for the work you’re doing at home.

I’m a feminist and that’s why I think it’s vital for women to have complete choice over every aspect of their life’s imposing my beliefs onto someone that doesn’t want to is the opposite of feminism

Isn’t the whole point of feminism supposed to be about choice, I think this kind of rhetoric is why we have so much divide in society. You have just made a moral claim that a woman cannot uphold her own values.

This is why feminists are intolerant, you guys have gone beyond "let us work if we want to", to "if you have the traditional life that I don't personally like then you shouldn't be allowed to continue living that way". Its come full circle, you guys have become the ones denying women the choice to live life as they please, if you wanna be a corporate women go ahead, if you want to be a stay at home traditional wife then also go ahead. YOU are the intolerant one that is trying to force your beliefs on others. Also, why is being a corporate worker where ur working for ur boss literally doesn't gaf about you "empowering", but working for ur husband and kids who love you is "oppressive"? Geniunely asking.

Many vegans such as myself would say that it isn’t morally permissible to eat meat. Still at the end of the day I kinda have to respect people’s choices and that’s kinda why I do prescribe to choice feminism

hard agree. i think an adult should be able to care for themselves and their children (if they have them) and that applies to women and men. men should be able to take over household duties and childcare and women should have their own source of income that isn’t dependant on their partner. i’ll also add that men who don’t contribute anything but money to the household are just as stunted and immature as women who do nothing but stay home and care for the house/children

I understand the aversion to Choice feminism but my issue with radical feminism is it's all very subjective. you may draw the line at a place where you think is reasonable between something like Trad wives and a stay at home mom but a lot of people don't, and then use that as a logic to attack those who make any form of choice that doesn't agree with them. It leads to too much dogmatic thinking. Tradwives are definitely feeding into the patriarchy in very harmful ways, I agree with you, I'm more worried about where people are putting their lines in the sand for what is the better lifestyle.

i think the real issue with tradwife that isn’t talked about enough is that it is an unnatural decision to make. it is a decision that has been birthed from rigorous amounts of brainwashing since childhood. there is no part of the brain that makes a woman naturally desire to be a tradwife. it is an entirely socialised outcome that stems from the fact that we live in a patriarchal society.

I think it’s important that you are clearer in your messaging here. Firstly, is your argument that we should criticise the re-emergence of the tradwife lifestyle? If that is what you are saying, I wholeheartedly agree. However, rhetorically, your message is delivered in a way that seems to suggest you want to establish a society in which these lifestyles or relationships are obsolete through means of social control, which I may have a problem with. We must allow people to make the decisions they want for their lives. It is a human right, central to feminist principles and the notion of choice. It isn’t just “choice feminism”; it is feminism. However, incentivising people and educating them on healthy relationship dynamics is something I can get behind.
Also, there is nothing inherently immoral about watching certain content on the internet. Rather, critiques of the sex work industry should focus on how it can be made safer for those who produce and consume such content. While I appreciate the radical perspectives and agree with the issues identified, the feminist response must centre women’s dignity of risk and create environmental conditions that predispose women and other minorities to the best possible social outcomes.

I'm very much pro everyone getting to do what they want to do with their life. But yeah the trad wife angle worries me. Having no money, no qualifications, no work experience and being solely reliant on another person is just not a good idea. What happens if they leave? I don't like the idea of anyone Male or Female being in such a vulnerable position. But rather than stopping people from choosing that, I'd prefer to ensure there's always money and support there, like UBI or something similar

Sadly that’s too authoritarian of an opinion. I don’t think that flies in the US and even Europe. I’m always live and let live, as long as you don’t force your beliefs on me you can do whatever you want and I won’t force my beliefs on you.

I completely agree but im yet to hear an objective argument as to why being in a traditional role e.g wanting only to raise children is inherently bad. Everytime ive asked its people degrading motherhood.
