@na_na.ko7: I’m SO tired of Muslims pretending that everything they dislike about their religion is “culture, not Islam” 😭😭 GIRL, PLEASE. Religion doesn’t exist in a vacuum. It shapes people’s values, laws, clothing, expectations and entire societies. And Islam is absolutely no exception. Let’s talk about the hijab, niqab and burqa. Stop acting like these practices have nothing to do with Islam. Islamic teachings on modesty and covering are a major reason these practices exist and are maintained across Muslim societies. The garments themselves have different cultural histories, but their religious significance is undeniable. A practice can be cultural AND be shaped by Islam. Those things are not mutually exclusive. And BENGALIS are literally the perfect example. Hindu Bengalis and Muslim Bengalis share an ethnic identity, a language and overlapping cultural traditions. So why are hijab and niqab associated so strongly with Muslim religious practice, while Hindu Bengali women generally don’t wear them as religious requirements? 🤨 Why do the same patterns appear across other communities divided by religion? Maybe, JUST MAYBE, religion has something to do with it? You cannot keep claiming these practices are purely cultural while ignoring the obvious role Islamic teachings play in them. 💀 And notice how culture suddenly becomes the explanation whenever people want to distance Islam from something they find uncomfortable. When local culture makes religious practice more accepting of women’s autonomy or LGBTQ+ people, suddenly culture can reshape how people interpret their religion. But when we discuss restrictive gender expectations or compulsory veiling, suddenly nobody wants to acknowledge religion’s influence on culture. You cannot have it both ways. If culture can shape how Muslims interpret and practise Islam, then Islam can absolutely shape the culture Muslims live in. Stop using “it’s culture, not Islam” as a convenient escape from examining the religion’s actual teachings and influence. 😭 #exmuslim #culture #womensrights #History #heritage

The Quran mentions two garments for women: the khimar (covering the hair, neck, shoulders, and chest), and the jilbab (outer garment). All others developed due to local customs. References to covering the face in certain situations can be found in the hadiths. Indeed, the burqa, niqab, and the like are not prescribed, in fact wearing the niqab and covering the entire face, and covering the hands is prohibited in certain cases.

Everytime ppl say "Oh, maybe it's her choice, what to dress in" She was most likely imposed on religion in her childhood, she didn't had choice what to believe in while she was a kid, she just listened to her parents. I never got imposed on religion, although they baptized me in age of 1 in orthodoxchurch- I never heard stories about god, nobody read Bible or Quran to me and taught me about "real and only one right god" who nobody alive on this earth seen. Only growing in agnostic environment you can make your own choice
