@harukamori.jp: Martha Plimpton is calling out Saturday Night Live creator Lorne Michaels after comedian Shane Gillis sparked a wave of backlash with jokes about women’s gym clothing. The 55-year-old East of Eden actress took to Instagram on Tuesday, saying Gillis’s monologue was deeply disappointing and arguing that Michaels needs more women involved in decisions about what makes it onto television. Her criticism followed a documentary she watched showing a group of people gathered in Michaels’s office between rehearsals and the live broadcast to decide which sketches would air. Plimpton said the group appeared to consist entirely of white men, with no women or people of color visibly involved in the decision-making process. She argued that the people shaping television comedy should better reflect the audiences watching it. But she also had strong words for Gillis himself. During his October 10 monologue, the 38-year-old comedian joked that women at the gym dress like “Wh\*res,” describing their tight workout shorts as “artificial bait.” The comments triggered criticism from several celebrities who argued that the joke demeaned women. Former SNL cast member Ego Nwodim responded with a sarcastic gym selfie, while country singer Maren Morris publicly criticized Gillis’s remarks. Actor Dan Levy also condemned the monologue, arguing that media portrayals can affect how women are treated. However, radio host Bobby Bones defended the joke, saying he found its fishing-related comparison funny. The controversy has now grown beyond one comedian’s routine, raising questions about who gets to shape the humor audiences see on national television. \#MarthaPlimpton #ShaneGillis #SaturdayNightLive #CelebrityNews #hollywoodnews
