@redsonika: I absolutely don’t know where this brand new Quebec info comes from, but I might use it as an excuse to DoorDash some poutine. #genealogy #ancestry #ancestrydna #dna #dnaresults
Not to mention: the Belgian actually covers a French-ish. Also: wouldnt Quebec come from France eventually unless you are native?

My example of this is that I’m 25% Mexican (similar to you I have one grandparent who is generational Mexican) but mine shows up as regions of Spain + Africa + Mexico=25% so now we confirmed we were part of the African slaves that Spain put in Mexico.

What confuses me is my son has Acadia but me or his dad does not. I’m suspicious 🤨

Okay this makes SO much more sense! I’m still very predominantly Irish (like 80% added up) but it gave me some random places I had no documentation of, but I know they have a large Celtic population now. Interesting.

It's all mostly BS, but it is interesting that I've been German and un-Germaned a couple times now. and this time it wasn't even because of Germany invading the Czech Republic and Austria.

yea it’s completely random and between siblings even some can have regions others don’t so idk why people think blood percents is so important your actual ancestors are what’s real

I just think it’s fun to see how my genetic makeup compares to other people. No matter the updates or how much the actual numbers change, both Ancestry and 23&Me clock me as PA German, which I very much am. It also makes my dad upset when I get “more French”, which makes me giggle

the update three updates ago gave me a big chunk of Swedish, which i didn't have documented. but my grandmother was adopted and I knew almost nothing about her past other than her parents died very young. I followed the Swedish matches and found her family. turns out she had two sisters, who were all adopted by different families across three states and they stayed in touch. I'm estranged from that side of the family so without that big Swedish chunk I wouldn't have found them

Been a genealogist for over 35 years working on my family. I'm lucky in that majority family organizations and other in orgs., have worked on several of my lines and they're pretty accurate: proven Mayflower descendant via several lines. Sackett family association is very strong with my Sackett maiden name line as well as my Buffalo Bill line which has the Cody Family Association working hard for many decades. I have a higher percentage of Quebec and Indigenous with great lakes too. My paternal grandmother was a registered Salish Kootenai Tribal member and her ancestors intermarried amongst Tribes and via marriage a' la facon du pays aka country marriages with French fur traders and Indigenous women. Mine lines up excellently. I finally got some swedish back and that's via a 2 times great grandparents and I have 2, 3 times great grandparents who came over from Ireland and Scotland as children, luckily have 1 document from the Irish voyage. I treat 3% or less designations as an echo...

My brother took one and it came back with a ton of Hungarian and he was like “I don’t know how that happened”- our paternal grandmother (and father) was born in what’s now Slovakia, literally on the Danube, across from Hungary. Lol, I haven’t been able to take those tests seriously since.

While doing my grandfathers biological family tree I noticed his 2nd great grandmother was born and died in Switzerland and he had no Switzerland DNA until this recent update! Now when I did my mom’s side of our tree I was confused on why I had no French Canadian (Quebec) DNA when my family came from Quebec to Vermont and boom 17% Quebec. I actually have baptismal records birth certificates and stuff proving the Quebec ancestry too.

Do you think DNA testing would be helpful for someone who had great grandparent that was an orphan?
(paper trail begins at being anonymously brought to orphanage)
Or is that too far back to find much?

Mine became a lot less accurate with this update. They reduced my Scottish from 20% to 5% and made me mostly English and Jewish. The Jewish part has stayed 50% but the other stuff is off by claiming mostly English now, which isn’t the case.
