@new_england_unfiltered: Nearly 600 Rhode Island employees now have a concrete deadline attached to Hasbro’s planned relocation to Boston. According to an October 8 notice filed with the Rhode Island Department of Labor and Training, 587 Pawtucket employees will stop working at the company’s Rhode Island headquarters on December 24. Employees who accept the relocation are expected to begin reporting to Boston on January 4, 2027. Those who decline will lose their jobs. The affected positions span finance, engineering, marketing, product development and management. Hasbro says the filing is a procedural requirement connected to relocation plans announced in September 2025, not a new layoff announcement. Company officials also say employees have received transition support. Pawtucket Mayor Don Grebien criticized the company’s communication with city officials and called for discussions about the transition and future of the company’s longtime headquarters property. WHY WE’RE WATCHING: Hasbro’s departure is already known. The newly disclosed filing establishes the specific number of affected employees and the deadline they face. The company has operated in Rhode Island for generations. Pawtucket officials are now seeking clearer information about the economic consequences and future of the property. Relocation decisions belong to businesses. Their effects on employees, local tax bases and surrounding communities are legitimate public concerns. Christmas Eve is quite a deadline for telling hundreds of workers where their careers must go next.
