حَاوَلْتُ حَلَّ الْعُقْدَةِ الْكَأْدَاءِ _وجيه البارودي تصوّر القصيدة معاناة إنسانٍ وقع في مشكلةٍ شديدة التعقيد، فاستنفد في سبيل حلّها كل ما يملك من صبرٍ وخبرةٍ وذكاء، ولم يكتفِ بمحاولاته الشخصية، بل لجأ إلى أقاربه وأصدقائه، وكشف لهم خفايا معاناته، لعلّه يجد بينهم من يفهمه أو يساعده على الخروج مما هو فيه. لكنّ محاولاته لم تثمر حلًّا، بل ازدادت حاله سوءًا، وتحولت حاجته إلى المساعدة إلى مصدر ضيقٍ للآخرين؛ فضاقوا بشكواه، وتبرّموا من إلحاحه، حتى طلبوا منه ألّا يعود إلى الحديث عن مشكلته مرةً أخرى. وهنا تبلغ القصيدة ذروة مرارتها؛ إذ لا يعاني الشاعر من المشكلة الأصلية وحدها، بل يعاني أيضًا من خيبة الأمل فيمن ظنّ أنهم سيعينونه على تجاوزها. فقد جرّب التفكير، واستعان بأهل الخبرة، وباح بما في داخله، ومع ذلك لم يجد المخرج الذي ينشده، ولا الاحتواء الذي كان يرجوه. وفي ختام القصيدة، ينكفئ الشاعر على نفسه، حامدًا الله رغم خيبته، متخذًا من الصبر درعًا يحتمي به أمام الشدائد. وليس هذا الصبر بالضرورة انتصارًا أو وصولًا إلى الحل، بل هو محاولة للحفاظ على تماسكه بعد أن أدرك أن بعض المعارك لا تنتهي كما نريد. إنّ جوهر القصيدة هو خيبة الإنسان حين يستنفد كل وسائله، ثم يكتشف أن الآخرين قد يملّون من ألمه قبل أن ينتهي ألمه نفسه. وهي تعبّر عن الوحدة التي قد يشعر بها المرء حين يعجز عن حلّ مشكلته، ويعجز كذلك عن العثور على من يتّسع صدره لمعاناته.
