@stevencyrmd: Stop the handwashing videos? Someone recently commented that my surgical scrub clips are “super annoying” and asked me to stop. If you know me, you know I’ve been a lifelong teacher. I love breaking down complex medical concepts and showing people the reality of what we do. That is exactly why I keep making these videos. Because my schedule is packed, I have to find creative pockets of time to do that teaching. Most days leave almost no downtime. Using those five minutes to talk through the case, the plan, and the specific nuances for that patient helps me organize my thoughts and clear my mind before I step into the OR. A proper surgical scrub takes a full five minutes of meticulous mechanical technique to ensure patient safety. It is not optional, and it is not dead time. For an educator, it is the perfect window to bring you into the prep room with me and show you what surgical discipline actually looks like. Surgery does not have to stay a mystery. If these videos are not your style, feel free to scroll past. For everyone else who wants to see the work that happens before the first incision, thank you for being part of the classroom. — Dr Steven Cyr • Orthopedic Spine Surgeon Follow SASpine for health news, education, and the context behind it. #MedicalEducation #PatientSafety #SurgeonLife #SpineHealth #ORLife

i’m just gonna assume and I think I’m correct and saying that the individual that posted that obnoxious and quite disrespectful comment is not in the medical field and has no concept of how important a good scrub is before surgery that was in the medical field appreciate and love your videos thank you

Keep scrubbing, Doc! It’s so important for people outside the medical field to understand why proper surgical scrubbing matters and the role it plays in preventing infections and keeping patients safe.

45 minutes on night 1 is normal. But that's not the number that tells you it's working. nobody told me this part. I sat in the hallway on night 1 staring at my phone and it felt like 2 hours. The timer said 41 minutes. Night 2 was worse and I was ready to quit. my husband said "it's been too long, just go get her." Turns out we were watching the wrong number. One night's minutes don't mean much. What matters is whether the TOTAL is coming down, and total means bedtime + every 2am wake. I wasn't counting the 2am crying at all. What we started doing: → Timer on when she started crying, off when she was quiet. Bedtime AND every night wake. fussing and babbling don't count. → Each morning: write down total crying, how long to fall asleep, how many wakes. → Compare night 3 or 4 to night 1. Never night 2, it's often the worst one. → Going down? change nothing. Not even "just a little" gentler. → Went down then spiked on night 4–6? that's normal, and usually right before the big drop. Hold steady 2 more nights. → Flat for 3 nights? something in the day is fighting you. Move bedtime 20–30 min earlier first (overtired is the #1 reason). Then check the last nap (ending too close to bed?). Then your check-ins (under a minute, same words every time). Change one thing, give it 3 nights. → No downward trend by night 7–10? pause, look at the whole day's schedule, and talk to your pediatrician. → Sick, fever, or a cry that sounds like pain = stop and comfort her. Pick it back up where you left off when she's better, not from night 1. Bedtime got better first for us. 2am took a few more nights. by night 6 it was 8 minutes total. In a big survey of parents who sleep trained, crying averaged 43 minutes on night 1 and about 9 by the end of the week. Most were done in about 7 days. send this to whoever's in the hallway with you saying "it's been too long." You can keep guessing at 2am if 30 minutes is "too long." Or tap the cry timer in Cocoo when she starts, and in the morning it tells you: better or harder than last night, by how many minutes. 2 taps vs another week of not knowing if any of this is working. link in bio. #cryitout #sleeptraining #ferbermethod #babysleep
