Guessing the speakers in the base are larger and cheaper than small speakers in wall mount. I’m more confused about why it needs ADT monitoring. Nothing advertised has said this is a home security system

They want to incentivize having the device in a more central/frequently used/social space. They know if its stuck to the wall in the entryway like most of our Nest thermostats you wont stand there and interact with it as much like you would if it were sitting on your kitchen countertop or in your living room. Thats the only conceivable reason to price the wall mounted one so illogically.
