Founded in 1907 in Bergamo, Atalanta takes its name from Atalanta, the swift huntress of Greek mythology, and over time her profile became the defining symbol of the club. Early badges were more traditional shields, but by the 1960s the figure of La Dea, “The Goddess,” had started to take center stage. The crest kept getting simpler and more recognizable through the 1970s and 1990s, eventually settling on the famous blue, black and white profile. In 2026, Atalanta introduced its newest redesign, stripping the badge back even further and placing La Dea at the center. Her hair now has five distinct strands, a deliberate tribute to the club’s five founders in 1907. Atalanta has also grown from a proud Bergamo club into a major European force, producing and developing stars such as Gaetano Scirea, Roberto Donadoni, Filippo Inzaghi, Alejandro Gómez, and Duván Zapata, while reaching a historic high by winning the UEFA Europa League in 2024.
