@npr: More than 4,000 plaintiffs across the country are suing drugmakers, claiming serious harms from GLP-1 drugs, raising questions about how common such side effects are. Millions of Americans take these drugs, yet there isn’t much reliable data about serious side effects like sudden blindness, pancreatitis and gall stones. Ozempic’s maker, Novo Nordisk, says serious conditions are exceedingly rare in clinical trials. The FDA tracks side-effect reports filed by doctors, patients or companies. NPR found about 2,000 cases of pancreatitis and 1,000 cases of sudden blindness out of 190,000 GLP-1-related filings since 2024, but those reports are unverified, and doctors often don’t report because it’s hard to be sure the drugs caused the problems. Aren't those also symptoms of diabetes, which the drug is prescribed for?

historically, drug companies have not been terribly concerned with safety but very concerned with profits.

Correlation doesn’t equal causation. Those conditions are potential risks of diabetes in general. (Not a doc—do your research using reliable sources)

Gastroparesis (sometimes permanant) is also a side effect that can ruin your life and crash your health.

my aunt passed from non brand name compounded semiglutide after it caused a severe pancreatitis incident. the doctors said if it had been brand name she would have suffered a much worse fate.

I trialed this because I’m pre-diabetic also struggling with weight loss. Within 2 months I had gallstones. Now I have no gallbladder. Don’t do it. Don’t even humor it.

This is meant for diabetics who are at high risk for heart attack and morbidly obese not for regular use by otherwise healthy people. The risk s are shared on the box insert for the testing group of diabetics

Were those possible complications not listed as a potential side effect? If they didn't list the potential for that, then I think they're responsible, but if they listed it and people just didn't read it or ignored it then that's on them.

I’d love to know how many plaintiffs used the drug for specifically weight loss, rather than a health-necessitated reason like diabetes.
