@theinteriordesignshow: There’s a lot to love about Leanne Kilroy’s (@goodboneslondon) Victorian townhouse, but perhaps the best thing about it is that it doesn’t take itself too seriously. Leanne has a knack for giving old things a new life. Her kitchen island was made to look like an aged shop counter, complete with bun feet and moulding, while a 150 to 200-year-old Danish apothecary cabinet from her father’s former antiques shop has become one of the hardest-working pieces in the house. It stores everything from batteries to napkins, and she jokes that it’s the one thing she’d save in a fire, if only it weren’t so heavy. The house itself has come a long way. When the family moved in, it had been divided into around seven bedrooms as a boarding house. Now, the former dark and mouldy kitchen is a generous family hub beneath a fully glazed roof, while clever additions like a mustard-painted pantry and hidden food cupboard make the most of every inch. There’s a lovely sense of humour in the details, too. A fireplace rescued from the street in 11 pieces now sits in the bedroom, vintage pots once belonging to Leanne’s parents have found a home in the kitchen, and a settle of mysterious origins has become a favourite spot around the dining table. “I think that kind of idea of furniture and the pieces in your house sparking a lot of joy in you, that is kind of how I live now,” Leanne says.
