@hr_explained: Replying to @jeffhealy476 Human Resources was created (because the department hasn’t always existed) to handle functions companies want and need that others don’t want to do. That’s it. It’s not different that IT. Or Maintenance. Or Finance. Sure, a company could make the IT manager also in charge of maintenance and payroll and marketing, but do we think that’s a good plan? Lol no. This is why departments and divisions exist within companies. Work is needed and wanted. And it’s broken down and categorized into groups and then experts in that work are hired to do it. HR is not different from IT or Marketing or Maintenance. HR as a department has to do work that companies want and need that other professionals at the company don’t want to do. This doesn’t mean HR has to be in charge to have value. If it did, we’d have to say the same thing about IT and Marketing and Maintenance and Finance. Some companies don’t have HR at all and the leaders that are there have to absorb the work. They often really don’t like that and want the company to hire an HR professional to do that work (me) so they don’t have to. And so they honestly have an expert to work alongside and partner with (again, me) rather than do the work alone and wonder if they are doing it correctly. #humanresources #hrtiktok #managersbelike #manager #corporatelife
Right but who do they call when their check is wrong , then their taxes need updating , when they need to change benefits, when they need a leave of absence, when there is an issue at work. Oh we do nothing right 😂

I also find that what people want HR to do is fire the person they have a problem with based on their word alone 🤷🏻♀️

In my experiences Directors/Managers love to use H/R as the "bad guy" that there is nothing the Director/Manager can do cuz H/R says so...blah. blah, blah, also ppl use H/R as a threat to "get a reaction to invoke fear" as a power play to get what they want so weak Management tend to buckle on that threat and that is where all of my frustration comes from. Makes me want to make an appt with H/R to get straight answers but I don't want to "rock the boat or shine a light on me" as a trouble maker.

Would have to disagree here...again. HR runs its business just like other parts of the org run their business. They are in charge of a lot that pertain to labor and an organizations people. I’m sure small orgs may be different. But large organizations 100% have HRLT involved in business decisions that affect the entire organization.

There is a common misconception that HR is the “police” at work. This is why they think we “run” the place

I love your content so much. I think that you’re amazing…. But I do have to say I wish more companies knew this about their HR department because they don’t and this is where HR gets a bad rep. It’s because they’re not working authentically how HR is design designed to be.. so now if we could just get all these places to listen to you, then things would be much better

i literally barely have time to eat lunch. My days are never the same and I never know what's coming my way. It's exhausting and I'm so thankful that my company understands and appreciates everything I do. yesterday I rescinded a term after speaking to the employee and looking into the facts further.

HR does a whole lot. I’m lucky that I have a good relationship with our hr rep and she has helped me a whole lot navigating benefits and stuff. Hr can be a really good resource for things, but just a place to complain about others to

So I talked to HR and he was shocked about what the supervisor was doing, unfortunately he wasn’t my HR representative and a week later I was fired.

Why is HR trying super hard to sound relevant? We all do something that sounds worthless to someone. My HR bestie would just say to ignore the haters because they are not in your control. So goosfrabaaaaa gooosfraaaabaaaaa!

I was at an HR conference a couple of years ago & the speaker was talking about how the HR to people support was shrinking. They asked any HR person in the room to stand up if they feel overworked & unable to fulfill all their duties. About 90% of the room stood up. 😳

401k audits, EEOC filings, interactive accomodations processes, benefits brokerage negotiations, open enrollment, HRIS administration, offboarding coordination, merit planning, comp benchmarking. Like there’s a reason that advanced HR certifications have such a low pass rate. To do all this compliantly is not a small feat.
