@helenaodinson: October 13, 2026 | Santiago, Chile 🇨🇱 A severe thunderstorm accompanied by heavy rain, hail, and powerful wind gusts hit the capital of Chile. In the Estación Central district, near the Terminal Sur bus station, strong winds tore off parts of roof structures and lifted lightweight objects into the air. Chilean meteorologists preliminarily classified this phenomenon as an EF0 tornado. Heavy rain and hail occurred in various districts of Santiago, including Providencia, Ñuñoa, Las Condes, Vitacura, and La Florida. Water flooded streets and sections of the subway system. The Pedro de Valdivia station on Metro Line 1 was temporarily closed due to water accumulation, and flooding was reported at the Manuel Montt station. Within a few hours, about 20 mm of precipitation fell in parts of the metropolitan region. Amid the severe weather, authorities declared a red alert for the entire Metropolitan Region.
