Marjulin had left work that afternoon to meet her estranged husband, Richard Pastor Perez, at his apartment. According to family accounts, they were supposed to discuss the sale of a vehicle and a possible home purchase in Venezuela. She had told a relative where she was going. Her family never heard from her again. For more than two weeks, her three children waited for news. Police say Marjulin had never gone a day without seeing them before she disappeared. Investigators eventually found her vehicle abandoned near Perez’s apartment. His white Ford Escape was gone, and license plate reader records helped detectives trace its movements through Wichita Falls, the Texas Panhandle and into New Mexico. The SUV was later recovered at a hotel in Albuquerque. Surveillance footage showed a man matching Perez’s description leaving the vehicle behind. Then, on October 13, Denton police delivered devastating news to Marjulin’s family. Investigators said evidence gathered during the investigation led them to believe Marjulin had been murdered, although she had not been located. Police obtained a murder arrest warrant for Perez, 49, and began asking the public for help finding him. A family supporter described how Marjulin’s children had continued hoping their mother would come home. Now they’re facing the possibility that she never will.
